Print/Copy and Bus Pass Card Enrolment – Waiariki Institute of Technology
Waiariki use MIFARE® Smart Cards as their Student ID card and for building access through electronic controlled doors. However, Waiariki wanted to extend the use of these Smart Cards for additional applications so they could also be used as a combined bus pass as well as be used for print and copy control
RedCrater provided a software and hardware package that makes the process of supporting these additional applications on the cards easier. The Smart Card issuing solution, tailored for Waiariki, enables all of the Smart Card applications to be loaded on to the card at the time the card is issued. This provides an efficient process for both staff and students, and ensures that Waiariki obtain maximum value from their Smart Cards.
Ticketing, Entitlements and Cashless Payment - Eventfinder
Eventfinder required a Smart Card solution for ticketing, entitlements and cashless payments initially for the New Zealand Beer Festival and later for other similar events.
As part of this solution RedCrater developed a software module which enabled Smart Card technology to be integrated easily into point of sale so that Smart Cards could be used as an alternative to traditional cash or EFTPOS transactions. The main benefit of using Smart Cards for transactions is that they are on average 50% faster than other payment methods. This module used high security encryption methods to ensure all entitlements and cash stored on card were protected to eliminate any possibility of fraud.
RedCrater also provided Omnikey 5321CR Smart Card Readers which are completely waterproof and therefore suitable for a range of applications, particularly outside environments such as required for this event solution.
Smart Card Pay and Display Car Parking – Waikato Institute of Technology
Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) use a coin operated pay and display system for students to pay for parking. Given students have a MIFARE® Smart Card for Student ID they can potentially use their card to pay for parking as an alternative method of payment. This gives students a faster and more convenient way of paying for parking and reduces the number of coin collections required from each of the pay and display terminals.
RedCrater has designed a solution that uses Hectronic Pay and Display units fitted with MIFARE® Smart Card readers and which uses the student account facility in Equitrac as a way to pay for parking. The Hectronic Pay and Display units are managed through PA-Manager (Enterprise Edition) which is a Windows Client/Server based software package for managing the Pay and Display Units.
The integration software developed by RedCrater includes a Windows Service and a SQL Server Express database. A utility application supplied by Hectronic uses stored procedures in the SQL Server Express database to read white-list details and write pay and display transactions. The Windows Service interacts with Equitrac through an OLEDB connection and through the EQCmd utility (standard with Equitrac).
Customised Print Enrolment - Meridian Energy
Meridian Energy required MIFARE® Smart Cards to be used for both physical access via the Cardax FT access control system and for ‘FollowMe’ printing.
RedCrater developed a Card Serial Number (CSN) Capture Application which monitors for card printing and card change events from Cardax FT, then steps the user through the process of reading the CSN number from those cards. This CSN number is then written to a CSV file which is subsequently imported into Active Directory then transferred to Equitrac for FollowMe printing. The cards are printed and encoded with the Cardax card number using a Datacard SP75 printer through utilising the built-in Cardax FT Photo ID functionality.
